Hello friends! I hope everyone is doing well. I want to jump right in and talk about one of my favorite fashion categories. Shoes! I have purchased, sold, consigned, repaired, donated, and worn out my fair share of footwear and this is what I have learned. You really only need 6 pairs of shoes to cover all your bases.
The first:
Your trusty pair of sneakers
They can do it all! When you find a sneaker in the style, color, and comfort you like, it is hard to wear anything else. While a white sneaker is the safest choice, a colorful sneaker can also go with a lot. Don't be afraid to try something different, you might be surprised how much a pair of yellow shoes go with.
Next up:
A nice pair of flats
Something that is a little more elevated than a sneaker, but still casual enough to go with many outfits. This category swings from soft and feminine, ex. the ballet flat, all the way to structured and more masculine, the loafer. In the end, this is a personal style preference.
Pro tip-
When an outfit is leaning too far in one direction, it is fun to bring in an opposite vibe to add tension to the look.
And of course:
Boots
The main question here is tall or ankle boots? Each serve a purpose, but from what I have learned, my tall boots have gotten more cost per wear than my ankle boots. And I think I may have figured out why. They are easy to dress up, dress down, wear with long or short dresses, under or over pants, and they keep you warm. I also think they look more chic, but that's just me.
Next:
A pair of "dressy" shoes
"Dressy" is in quotations because this term means very different things to people. But what I have found, a shoe with a small heel (kitten or wedge) is the way to go. It's a nice way to step up an outfit without compromising comfort. Most of the time this also means a shoe that covers the toes.
Which leads me to:
A pair of comfy sandals
We want a pair that we can waaaaalk in. I have battled a lot with this one because I would think all sandals are comfy since most of my foot is free. Wrong! Sandals can rub the bottom of your foot, which can be just as painful as a blister from breaking in boots. I say, find a pair that have soft straps and a comfortable sole, and you will be gravy.
And lastly:
The statement shoe
Bring on the colors, prints, textures, any details that stand out. This one can be a slippery slope, so here is how I would choose. Take a category from above that you often wear, and find something funky in that category. This way you know it is something you will wear. Sometimes an outfit with sauce is all about the shoe.
And that is what I have for you this time, my friends! What are your top 6? Let me know in the comment section below.
Have a happy Thanksgiving!
