Trends are fun to spot, impossible to follow, and most of the time easy to DIY. This time I will be going through what I’ve been seeing on my feeds and my takeaways from each one.
1. Color Trend
When autumn comes around, earthy tones always are in the loop, and this year is no different. I am seeing a lot of purple. Not a bright purple, more eggplant. It’s gorgeous, but again, if it doesn’t float your boat, skip it.
Color trends are very personal and unique to each individual because not everyone looks good in every color!
I read somewhere that you can wear any color you please as long as you keep your best colors closest to your face, and I found this to be a helpful twist on a hard “no” rule.
2. Prints
Last year was all about leopard print and this time around I am seeing black and white prints. Think zebra, cow, even polka dot here and there. This colorway is harsher because of the high contrast, which makes the print more of a focal point, not a bad thing, just a note.
What I say about this particular trend is if you already own an animal print item, just keep wearing that because prints tend to fall in and out of trend pretty quickly.
3. Loafers
As a former private school girlie, I had to wear penny loafers as part of the uniform, and I have a real hard time imaging myself in those clunkers again. But for those of you who don’t have that history, the thin loafer is in rotation. These are riding the tail off of boat shoes we were seeing this summer and the chunkier loafer profiles popular last fall. Personally, I prefer a thinner profile shoe, so this wouldn’t be a bad option for me, but as stated before, been there done that.
Much like the advice from above, if you already own loafers, or a version of, then skip this slight update and keep wearing what you’ve got.
4. Lace
What is crochet for summer, lace is for fall. Lace is a wonderful way to add interest to an outfit without adding bulk, it can be a peekaboo element underneath a sweater or as trim to a skirt. So delicate, beautiful, and easy to shop secondhand! The thrift stores are FULL of it, so please shop secondhand first when it comes to this trend.
5. Boho Style
Bohemian style has been popular for a few seasons now, and it seems to be still going strong. As a boho gal myself, I love it! And that is the thing with trends, wait a while and something will come around that is totally you. There is nothing wrong if you buy into a trend, just as long as it aligns with your personal style.
6. The Utility Jacket
Because it is lightweight, simple in design, and with a boxy fit, it is a closet staple. Such a staple that I bet you could go into any home and find one in either mother’s, father’s, grandma’s or even grandpa’s closet. That is why I say borrow this trend, or you guessed it, shop it secondhand first.
7. Chunky Jewelry
This is a fun one. Before, it was all about the minimalist look, understated elegance, but now we have graduated to the loud and bold accessories. This trend goes hand in hand with that whole boho vibe thing going on but of course with a slight twist on the traditional.
We are seeing hardware come into play directly on the clothing, like the Tory Burch pierced sandals and mules (on my wishlist cause they’re so cool). I have also seen people bunch a sleeve and attach a hoop earring to it to add an interesting, unique twist. I’m all about it, not only because it looks cool, but it is easy to DIY.
8. Shoulder Baguette Bags
Of course, we have to talk about bags. Shoulder bags are still having their moment, but I am noticing a longer, sleeker profile. Much like the shoe trend, this trend is a slight variation on what we’ve been seeing, just enough to make you feel out of style. So, sounding like a broken record here, wear what you’ve already got, cause chances are this trend will end, and we will roll into something else sooner than you think.
What have you been seeing and do you think it is buy or a pass? Let me know in the comments.
TTFN,
