While I am not much for trends, there are a few floating around that I am crushing on. Staying true to our New Year’s resolution of no new clothes 2023, I find myself window shopping and finding creative ways to recreate those trendy fits.

One of those trendy items is the denim maxi skirt. Being as tall as I am (5’10”), finding an appropriately length denim skirt is quite the challenge. And the great thing is that you can make one for yourself from an old pair of jeans. There are plenty of tutorials out there to help you out.
Another trendy item I have seen around is the oversized blazer. If you have ever stepped into a thrift shop, you can bet to see your fair share of blazers. Don’t be afraid to shop in the men’s section, too!
And glory be, we are moving even further from skinny jeans to the era of wide/flare legs. Not only are they much more stylish (not a fact but kinda), they are comfy. Seriously. Who wants to wear anything restrictive anymore? The best news, they are pretty easy to come by in resale shops.
Hate shopping for jeans? We wrote a blog post all about jean shopping to help out. Check it out, here!
A trend for some but has been a staple in my closet for years, the big bag. Totes are one of the most popular options I’ve seen, but the world is your oyster. The great thing about tote bags is that they are pretty easy to recreate. Our girl, Ysabel Hilado has a tutorial on her IG for a DIY Triangle tote that is totes (sorry, had to) cute. Have fun, get creative!

Remember when tie-dye made its comeback and was all the rage? Well, this is a twist on that and now blurry prints are in. You can achieve a similar effect with alternative tie-dyeing techniques like tissue paper dyeing or ice dyeing. Pinterest has plenty of tips and ideas on both and is a perfect solution to save some items that have spots or stains on them.
Long, shoulder skimming earrings are here!! Earrings are hands down my favorite type of accessory. They can change an outfit from simple to pow! At HWGA, we always have a solid rotation of cute, affordable earrings. Another plus, they are fun to make and you can create a pair out of anything really.
I often use the term “trendy” in a negative way on here, more in relation to big brands influencing our shopping habits, but there is nothing wrong with liking and wearing them just as long as you are consuming mindfully.
Till next time,
Dre
