When it comes to hats, they should do 3 things:
Protect your face from the sun,
Make you look ever so stylish,
And cover up a bad hair day.
While I am a firm believer in wearing whatever makes you happy, there are some hat styles that will compliment your features more than others.
To begin, there are 4 basic face shapes: Square, Oval, Round, Heart
Square Face Shape
Identifying features:
- strong jawline and forehead
- width of the face from brow to jaw is equal
- proportional in length and width
Hat Recommendations: boater hats, bucket hats, and hats with wide brims.
Oval Face Shape
Identifying features:
-versatile face shape
- width of brow, cheekbone, and jaw are almost equal
- length is 1 ½ times the width
Hat Recommendations: About any hat will look good, lucky you!
*Oval faces can also include long faces. The difference is the face is a longer oval shape where the forehead, cheeks, and jawline are still approx the same width and your chin also has a slight curve.
Round Face Shape
Identifying features:
- width at cheek area
- nearly as wide as it is long
- wide forehead and rounded chin
Hat Recommendations: caps, fedoras, and wide brim hats
Heart Face Shape
Identifying features:
- high angular cheekbones
- broader in the cheekbone and brow area and small or narrow in jaw
- widows peak
Hat Recommendations: short brim fedora, short brim boater, berets, and beanies.
Body Shape
When it comes to hats, your body shape also plays a huge role in how you will appear.
If you have sharp features, go for angular hat shapes.
If you have round features, go for hats with softer shapes.
If you are tall, go for shorter crown hats, and if you are short, go for taller crown hats.
Hats add length to your overall appearance, so keep that in mind when choosing crown height.
In a nutshell: follow your face shape AND body shape to find your *perfect* hat.
And that is what I have for you this time, friends! Did I miss anything? Let me know in the comment section below.
Until next time,
