The holiday season can be a really tempting time to buy new clothes, especially when you have a few events lined up, and you want to look your best. But before you go out shopping, let’s take a second look at our closets and see what we can come up with first.
Jewelry can transform a whole outfit! This is an easy way to add that little sparkle and shine in lieu of that sequin top you will probably only wear once or twice. I would take this time to experiment with material mixing and go for the full glam, and don’t hold back.
There are many a ways to style and elevate that sweater, I know you already have in your closet. Layering is an easy way to transform a simple piece into something more unique and special. Try adding a thin turtleneck underneath for some interesting combinations (bonus points for pattern mixing) or a button-up blouse that pokes out underneath the sweater, exposing the collar and cuffs, giving the look distinct focal points.
You should have at least one jacket, coat, or cape that looks elegant, polished, interesting, and/or fun. The materials that I think work best for statement outerwear are tweed, wool, leather, fur, and suede. Make your outwear the star of the show by muting the rest of the outfit.
Focus on Separates
It is much easier to put together an outfit when you have a lot to work with. I would focus on tailored pieces, luxe fabrics, and bring in the metallics or sequins (if you have it).
Up Your Makeup & Hair Game
This is my favorite and always useful tip that applies to just about everything. When in doubt, throw on some bold color lipstick and do something special with your hair. Most of the time, this is enough.
Happy Holidays and until next time,
