I'm in a style rut.
I'm a new mom and my style has changed dramatically since becoming a mother. My go-to pieces have to meet a new set of requirements: breastfeeding friendly, comfy, and easy to clean. Needless to say, my wardrobe has become very.....practical, and I can't take it anymore.
When I'm in a rut, I like to look at old photos and see the outfits I have worn, and liked, to see what I can gather from them. What I noticed was the best outfits involved a 3rd piece that made it interesting. For example, flare jeans, a white lace detail top, and a velvet navy vest. The jeans and lace top were good but adding that third piece, the vest, turned an ok outfit into a great one.
I began to analyze other outfits outside of my own and I started to see the same thing. Top, bottom, 3rd piece that transforms the whole outfit.
Adding a third interesting (has to be interesting) piece might be the key to unlocking good style.
The 3rd piece can be many things: a vintage kimono, a bold necklace, an intricate belt, eyecatching shoes, or even a bright red lip. It has to create contrast either through color, texture, length, or material.
So, for the past month I have implemented this strategy. Not only do I look more stylish, it was pretty easy to do without having to shop. And even better yet, this method can be used by anyone and everyone right now, today, this minute. I implore you to try it out.
Now when I DO shop I look for those transformative 3rd piece items.
TTFN,
Dre
