After two years plus of pandemic summer activity curtailment, the limits of social gatherings, and other fun summer pursuits are finally lifting! And at Here We Go Again deluxe resale boutique, we are celebrating!
Our spirits are soaring! Although not different from previous Spring and Summer seasons, we’ve welcomed the tsunami of colorful, lightweight, natural fiber summer consignments! After the winter season, with its predominantly dark tones, heavier fabrics and covered-up silhouettes, the arrival of Spring and Summer’s colors and relative bareness is a breath of fresh air. The clothing is looser, the shoes are open toe, or barely there.
What are we loving this year? The familiar daily tsunami of great resale clothing! The intake part of our job, reviewing and sorting all the women’s resale clothing that is brought in every single day, is the best part of a fresh season. Some days are so crazy that we’ll have 6 or 7 consignments come in at the same time. It can make for a crowded and occasionally chaotic intake area, as we try to sort through quickly, selecting and curating all the designer resale clothing as fast as possible. If you ever wondered why we ask you to bring clothing on hangers – this is why! It takes a lot more time to hang items up, and without appointments (never!) incoming consignments can stack up. It can be impossible to assess clothing that is wrinkled, so it is often just rejected. We respect your time, and hate to keep anyone waiting longer than necessary, so bringing your things on hangers prevents wrinkles that can lead to rejection, but also allows us more time to actively review your women’s resale clothing, and get you on your way more quickly.
We appreciate every consignor who brings things in, and recognize that you’ve taken the time out of your day, so we want to accept as much as we can, and take as little of your time as possible. (More time to shop!)
Anyway, I digress. This Spring and Summer season, we’re totally digging the wide leg crop jeans. With a high waist, they’re one of the best looks for the summer. Pair them with a crop top, a fitted tank top, or blousy peasant top. Slip on a belt, or thread a long skinny scarf through the belt loops for a festival-ready look.
Music festivals and art fairs do appear to be resurging this year, so don’t forget a small crossbody bag, big enough for your essentials, but not enough to weigh you down. If you’re going to be at a single venue for a half day or whole day, a good size tote, big enough for your water bottle, sunscreen and a few snacks is another must-have item.
Dresses! Summer is dress season, and our racks are packed with dresses for the upcoming sunny season. Pick a mini or a maxi, they’re both hot looks this year. More than anything, keep it flow-y and breezy to both look and feel cool. If you’ve shied away from bare shoulders because you need to wear a more traditional bra with straps, don’t despair. , Even if the dress you love has spaghetti straps, or is bare on top, try a tank top underneath, or try one of our super comfortable, Made in the US, Nikibiki bralettes! You’ll be hooked. Or, unhooked, perhaps. These seamless bralette tops are stretchy, one size fits all, and the most comfortable thing you’ve ever worn. The fabric is so soft, offering medium support, and superior comfort. For a bit more coverage, try the Ice Waffle style.
Peasant style tops are surging in popularity, and seem to be everywhere in our women’s resale shop! Many of them feature detailed embroidery, with or without a keyhole tie at the front. We’re smitten with the colorful tassels on the ends of those ties. Those without embroidery may have smocked stitching around the neckline, or gathers. They come in all sleeve lengths from a narrow almost halter cut armhole to long sleeves to meet every preference. Most peasant blouses excel at showing a little bit of skin, and highlighting your lovely collar bones. Not all of them are low-cut, but if you want to show a bit more skin, choose one with a keyhole tie front.
We’re still absolutely in love with eyelet, the more colorful the better! We’ve been seeing eyelet embroidery on the traditional cotton fabrics, but it’s also appearing on silk, cupra rayon, denim and even knits! Eyelet is showing up on everything from camisoles to jumpsuits, lending a summery breezy and romantic look to everything in its path.
Sunhats are zipping out the door almost as fast as consignors bring them in. And why not? We may not have months of straight sunshine like some other states, but when it arrives, it can still burn your nose and the tops of your ears. Best to be prepared and look snazzy at the same time.
We love tote bags for Summer! Keep one ready by the door for impromptu beach trips, picnics, or a trip to your neighborhood farmers’ market. This year has seen both designer consignment tote bags like Prada and Stella McCartney, but also some great leather Patricia Nash totes, Michael Kors, wonderful local leather makers like Will Leather and Pendleton, but also wonderful resale bags in canvas, tapestry, repurposed quilts and kilim. From feather-light to substantial lifetime wear bags, Here We Go Again has totes for every purpose and personality. (Or should we say Purse-onality?)
Comfortable sandals are a must-have for your summer wardrobe. That doesn’t necessarily mean they have to be flat heels. Wedges are an extremely popular category of women’s resale shoes. Some of the shoe brands that are exceptionally popular are Sorel, Kork-ease, Birkenstock, Chaco, Eileen Fisher, Timberland, and of course great designer shoe brands like Chanel, Prada, and Vince. Our women’s resale shoe selection changes every day, from slip on styles, to gladiator wraps.
We just looked up this Spring and all of a sudden, it appears sneakers have gotten fun! I’m talking FUN! From colorful canvas sneaks, to printed, tooled leather, prismatic mirror patent, flatform styles and so much more! We are continually surprised and delighted at all the fun sneakers, trainers, slip-ons, lace-ups and Velcro-close styles of women’s consignment shoes coming in. It’s a kick, and we mean that about the kicks we get from kicks!
Someone must have spread the word this year that vintage designer sunglasses are in again, because the frames and styles that have been consigned in the last month include 1990’s Chanel, 1980’s Movado and Prada, and 1970’s Yves Saint Laurent. Designer sunglasses have the added advantage of being prescription ready, meaning the frames are of a high enough quality that you can have your optometrist add your prescription lenses to them for a custom look, with frames at a terrific resale price!
Finally, although I could go on all day about what’s hot this year – jewelry is hot Hot HOT! Maybe it’s because we’ve all been in our bubble with no reason to dress up much, or it could be the warmer weather, but earrings and bracelets are especially popular. Resale jewelry in general has been a scorching category for the past year. The consignment jewelry that we’re seeing is above and beyond, from collectible Native American and Mexican sterling silver pieces that take your breath away, to simple wear them everyday style hoops. We’venever had such a great selection of designer jewelry either! Our cases are full of John Hardy, David Yurman, Tiffany & Co, artisan handcrafted gemstone rings from small to substantial.
It’s a great year to shop resale, and to bring in your women’s consignment clothing for us to sell. We like to call it a “shopping savings account” because the next time you come in and find a treasure, maybe there will be a little consignment account money to apply to your new treasure. Isn’t resale fun? Let’s get this Summer started!
