Let’s talk about the stuff that holds everything together. Literally. Finding the right fit for your bras and underwear can feel like a mystery, but it does not have to be. I am sharing a few tried and true tips to help you feel comfortable and confident underneath it all.
Bras
The secret to a great bra? It is all about the band. Most of the support comes from there, not the straps like people often think.
Here is what to look for:
-
The band should fit snugly and sit straight across your back. It should feel supportive but still comfortable.
-
The underwires should follow the natural curve under your breasts, giving you lift and shape without digging in.
-
Straps should be adjustable and stay put on your shoulders. No slipping or digging allowed.
-
The little part where the cups meet in the center is called the gore or the bridge. It should rest flat against your chest. If it floats or digs in, your cups might be the wrong size.
-
Always start wearing your bra on the loosest hook. This gives you room to tighten it as the elastic naturally stretches over time.
How to Measure Your Bra Size: It's Easy, I Promise!
Grab a soft measuring tape.
-
Measure under your bust, right along the ribcage. This is your band size.
-
Measure across the fullest part of your bust. Make sure the tape is flat and not too tight.
-
Subtract your band size from your bust measurement. The difference tells you your cup size. Here is a quick guide: 1 inch difference = A cup, 2 inches = B cup, 3 inches = C cup, 4 inches = D cup, etc.
Example:
If your underbust is 32 inches and your bust is 36 inches, that is a 4-inch difference. Your bra size would be 32D.
And always an important note, each brand follows their own size guide, so there may be slight variations from bra to bra. Annoying, I know.
Underwear
When it comes to underwear, boring really is better. If you want that smooth, invisible finish under clothes, skip the fancy stuff for everyday wear.
Here is what I have learned:
-
Do not choose your underwear size based on your pant size. It never works. I usually size up for comfort and a better fit.
-
You cannot go wrong with 100% cotton. It is breathable and comfy.
-
Skin tone shades are your best friend under light or sheer fabrics.
-
Shapewear is not the enemy! It can help smooth things out and is nice when you want to tuck in your top.
-
Lace is lovely, but be mindful. Sometimes it shows through, and I have definitely been guilty of that.
The best outfit starts underneath. A little comfort, a lot of confidence and a secret or two That is how you really pull it off.
Until next time,
