The Accessory Wardrobe Formula

The Accessory Wardrobe Formula

Hi y'all hi,

When building your personal style, I think accessories are the best place to start. They have the power to completely change an outfit, give it that little pizzazz. And much like the rest of your wardrobe, they also take some experimentation in order to find your right mix.

In order to help you out with this category, I like to break things into three buckets: everyday pieces, personality pieces, and seasonal pieces.

Let's get into it.

Everyday Pieces

These are the pieces you reach for without thinking. Your everyday hoops, your favorite necklace, that ring you basically never take off.

And everyday doesn't have to mean boring! Maybe your signature is a chunky silver hoop, a stack of rings, or a little gold pendant. The point is that these pieces are your go-tos, your no brainers.

 Personality Pieces

Okay, now for the fun stuff. These are the pieces that make an outfit feel like *you*. The vintage brooch, the giant cocktail ring, the handmade necklace, the earrings that are probably a little ridiculous but you LOVE them.

This is where I'd consider investing a little more. Not necessarily because something has to be expensive, but because you want to be excited about it for a long time.

Before you buy, ask yourself: Would I be excited to wear this a year from now?

And maybe more importantly: Do I actually love this, or do I just love how it looks on someone else?

Imma say that one again: Do I actually love this, or do I just love how it looks on someone else?

Seasonal Pieces

And then we have our little trend babies. This is where you can have fun. A seashell necklace, a trendy pair of sunglasses, a scarf in the color of the season, whatever.

I don't think everything we buy needs to be a forever piece. Sometimes you just want to play around with a trend. This is where I'd spend a little less and give myself permission to experiment. The trick is knowing what you're buying.

If it's something you think you'll wear for years, invest in it. If it's something you're buying because it's fun and you want to try a trend, maybe it doesn't need to be.

The goal isn't to have an equal amount of everything. Your everyday pieces make getting dressed easy, your personality pieces make your wardrobe feel like yours, and your seasonal pieces keep things fresh.

So, before you buy your next accessory, ask yourself: Which bucket does this belong in? Will I actually wear it? And does it feel like me?

That's all for this time, TTFN
