While there are trends that come and go, there are some we see repeat each year. Here at Here We Go Again, we try to keep up with the trends, but our focus is more on personal style. However, sometimes you see a trend you like, and you want to incorporate it into your wardrobe. And that’s ok! This is an exercise in shopping your closet first, getting creative with what you got and if you are still in need, we are not too far away.
First up.
Quiet Luxury
This is a trend that has been hitting hard this year. Quiet luxury, if you don’t know, is about focusing more on timeless, subtle elegance, quality tailoring, and luxurious fabrics over the logo mania craze we have seen recently. Think of brands like The Row, Jil Sander, Khaite, and Tibi.
This trend can get pretty pricey. Instead of focusing on brands, pay more attention to material and fit. Swap an acrylic sweater for a wool one. Or take those trousers that bunch up where they shouldn’t and get them altered.
In order to achieve this “lewk” I have been able to swap a few pieces for one very special item I could never afford normally.
While this trend can be seen as exclusive, anyone can adopt it by being creative and thrifty.
Bows
This spring we saw a trend in rosettes and now for Fall we are seeing bows. This trend is basically a riff off of “ballet core”. The basics of ballet core are soft materials, romantic silhouettes, and pastel colors.
Personally, this is not my vibe. But because we are here to experiment, what I would do is to grab a ribbon and add it to my ponytail. I find that the easiest way to incorporate a trend that you don’t usually gravitate towards is through accessories. Another hassle-free way to try out the bow trend is to learn how to make cool bows on your trench coats, switch out your shoelaces for ribbons, you name it.
Checks
Checks for Fall is how florals are for Spring. As Miranda Priestly would say, “groundbreaking.” There are some trends that you can almost always rely on when the season changes, and check prints (including plaid, houndstooth, window pane) are one of them. I would even argue to say that this isn’t even a trend but a season staple.
Luckily, in Portland, we are in no short supply. And at this time of year, we can almost always guarantee that there will be a plaid Pendleton something in the shop.
Leather
Another not so surprising trend. We usually see leather pants and boots for Fall, this might be a fun time to try something new. Possibly a leather blazer or a leather beret or even a baseball cap. Since this is a cold weather staple, get unique with it.
Cozy Vibes
Oh, how we love this trend! The cozier an outfit can be, the better. But don’t stop there.
This could be a fun way to play with textures like shearling, velvet, faux fur (or real, whatever is your jam), or anything fuzzy. A way to incorporate this trend with what you may already have is to, once again, look at your accessories. Scarves, socks, and bags may be a way you can easily achieve this look. Another way is to create something out of a fuzzy blanket you may already have; you could make a clutch or an infinity scarf, both are relatively simple to make. Like we said, have fun, get creative!
And that, my friends, are 5 trends happening right now that you can participate in without going out and shopping new. Secondhand, first! Always.
Until next time,
Dre
