Sock-Tober Rides Again!

We love Fall-cozy sweaters and hoodies, leather jackets and boots; paired with comfortable and warm insulating socks, of course! Plus, it’s time for our annual Sock-Tober sock drive!

We are, of course, very lucky. Not only do we have warm feet, we have multiple pairs of socks from which to choose.

Not everyone in our fair city has that, and that’s how Sock-Tober came to be! A brain-child of Chris and her friend Kirsty, (who owns a fantastic resale shop in Unadilla, New York called House of Consignment) What if…our national network of resale shops all banded together to do a sock drive?

Voilà: SOCK-TOBER!

Every year, our 30-odd (in more ways than one!) shops, large and small, across the country from New York to Alabama to Ohio to Texas to Oregon and points in between, stock up on socks to sell. For every pair we sell, we donate a pair to local homeless organizations. Since we are all in different cities, and have different clientele, we each choose socks to appeal to our shoppers’ tastes and budgets. At Here We Go Again, our socks range in price from as little as $4 up to $9, in cotton blends, wool blends, embroidered details, colors, patterns and solids. We greatly enjoy picking out the socks we love, because we know you’ll love them too!

Socks are a real need within the homeless community as they rarely are received.   They defend against health issues, the upcoming cold weather and are sometimes called “white gold” among workers in social services.  According to the website, The Joy of Sox, “sometimes socks can be more important than bringing people food because food is not hard to get but it seems to be harder and harder to get socks all the time.” Socks are a critical component for health and well-being. And it just feels so much better to be wearing clean, dry socks, right?

More than 1000 pairs donated in 2018

In 2018, our shops donated well over a thousand pairs of socks! Our goal is to donate even more this year, and at HWGA we’ve ordered some socks we know you’ll love. Not only will they keep your feet warm, but they’ll warm your soul too, knowing that another pair is being donated with every pair purchased! Sock-Tober-it’s good for the sole!

Thank you from all of us at Here We Go Again!

Chris is a self-confessed resale fashionista. A fashion recycler from an early age, she learned the consignment business from her mother, Jan Gauger, at omt divine resale in Lincoln, Nebraska. Chris moved to Portland, Oregon in 1990 and immediately felt at home, among her people. She started Here We Go Again Deluxe Resale Boutique in 1992 and has never looked back. The second location of her store opened in 1997. Chris loves pretty much everything about clothes and fashion, but she has a serious boot and shoe addiction that is fed by the two stores. It's doubtful she will ever be recovered. In addition to clothes, Chris loves mentoring young women and teaching them about what it takes to run and manage a small business. She has employed some pretty remarkable women over the years and is grateful for all they've done to help grow Here We Go Again. She is a Hoosier by birth, but was raised in Nebraska. She has two sisters who continue to run the consignment store there, and one brother who has sense enough to stay out of the way. Her husband of twenty-seven years, is a land use planner and the fix-anything-guru that Chris relies upon more often than she'd like.
