January, Consignment Transition-Still Taking Women’s Designer Consignments!

Pendleton plaid women's jacket collar detailJanuary is sort of a consignment no-woman’s land. We’re past the peak winter selling season once we pass Christmas and New Year’s, but it’s still winter and our shoppers still want to shop! Our love for gently-used clothing and designer handbags and shoes knows no season. Winter items can still sell well in January, but our eyes are peeled for colorful, fun, brand name and designer label clothing that will sell quickly and not hang around waiting for markdowns. After all, it’s only a bit more than a month until we start taking Spring consignments!

So, what to bring in January? If you don’t have designer label clothing, don’t worry, we’re always happy to look at consignment clothing from better labels like J. Crew, Banana Republic and Ann Taylor, as long as they’re not too basic. This year specifically, we can use more skirts, sweaters and cardigans which will transition easily into the Spring season. Here are three tips for a successful consignment in January:

With our weather being still so dark and grey most days, a shot of color or a bright print cheers us up and piques our shoppers’ interest.

Brand names!

They shop consignment because they  like saving big on quality women’s resale labels like Burberry, Frye, Alice + Olivia, Vince, Theory and Icebreaker – to name a few – in addition to their favorite stand-bys like Ann Taylor, Anthropologie and Dansko.

Different, unusual or fun details!

A bit of whimsy in the detailing goes a long way to Marc by Marc Jacobs Purple Cardiganattract shoppers: a lace border, interesting topstitching, unusual buttons, a fun lining! These features may be small, but they set one piece of resale clothing apart from others and whisper to shoppers that they’re must-haves!

As a matter of fact, some categories are actually great to consign in January! Our racks are thinned out after the holidays and we need great resale clothing to restock them!  Consignment shoppers seek some upscale resale items no matter what the month:

  • Active and workout wear is in high Workout weardemand in January (New Year’s Resolutions!)
  • Boots, especially ankle booties this year (popular nearly year-round right now!)
  • Designer handbags (especially crossbody styles this year!)
  • Sweaters and Cardigans (great to layer even when it starts to warm up a bit!)
  • Premium Denim (we love our jeans!)
  • Premium denim-all season
