Hunger in Portland: Giving Back | Charitable Event at HWGA

Here We Go Again Deluxe Resale Boutique Broadway Combat Hunger event

As we approach the official celebration of our twenty-fifth year (pinch us!), it is among our greatest privilege to be able to give back to the community in as many ways as we can. As with any storefront business—-not just in resale—-we have the unique opportunity to join forces with our customers to make a difference. And especially in consignment, where our allies include not just customers but also consignors, our potential is fabulously greater! Join us in aiding one of Oregon’s most vital causes, and Feed the Need as we partner with the Oregon Food Bank to collect food items to help combat hunger.

Upscale Resale Bus Tour group

The Oregon Food Bank aids Oregon and Clark County, Washington in phenomenal ways—-for four years in a row they’ve distributed more than a million emergency food boxes! With a jaw-dropping 270,000 people per month relying on meals from emergency food boxes—92,000 of them are children—the need for food assistance is unprecedented. Since 2008, the distribution of these invaluable food boxes has increased 41% with the onset of economic hardship.

Feed the Need Food drive to combat hunger

Help combat hunger in Oregon by paying us a visit and bringing non-perishable food items with you. From Thursday, February 4th through Super Bowl Sunday on the 7th (or Soup-er Bowl as we like to call it!), bring food items into either of our stores (0511 SW Carolina in the Johns Landing area and 2438 NE Broadway in the Irvington neighborhood). In exchange, we will be extending our thanks by offering increasing discounts on our items storewide. Here’s how it works:

February 4-7, Superbowl Sunday Weekend

Bring 2 food items – 10% off your purchase

Bring 4 food items – 15% off your purchase

Bring 5 or more food items – 20% off your purchase

Not sure what to bring? Check the list of most-needed items on The Oregon Food Bank’s Website here.

As a green business that has always taken pride in being socially-conscious for the greater good, we take pride in having the privilege to give back. With a mission to uplift our visitors every time they walk through our doors, we extend that mission to those in need as well. As always, thank you for reading—-and we hope to see you soon for a little retail therapy and giving back!

Author: Chris Gauger

Chris is a self-confessed resale fashionista. A fashion recycler from an early age, she learned the consignment business from her mother, Jan Gauger, at omt divine resale in Lincoln, Nebraska. Chris moved to Portland, Oregon in 1990 and immediately felt at home, among her people. She started Here We Go Again Deluxe Resale Boutique in 1992 and has never looked back. The second location of her store opened in 1997. Chris loves pretty much everything about clothes and fashion, but she has a serious boot and shoe addiction that is fed by the two stores. It's doubtful she will ever be recovered. In addition to clothes, Chris loves mentoring young women and teaching them about what it takes to run and manage a small business. She has employed some pretty remarkable women over the years and is grateful for all they've done to help grow Here We Go Again. She is a Hoosier by birth, but was raised in Nebraska. She has two sisters who continue to run the consignment store there, and one brother who has sense enough to stay out of the way. Her husband of twenty-seven years, is a land use planner and the fix-anything-guru that Chris relies upon more often than she'd like.
