Fall Buzz: First Look

It’s official: I just had my first tinge of giddiness about fall. I know—it’s not right! The sun is shining, we’re in the heart of summer, we’re spoiled as Portlanders to have so many beautiful things to explore outside, and nevertheless: I blame a pair of boots. I saw a pair nestled on a shelf at our Johns Landing location, and in two seconds flat I was filled with that recognizable rush. In the women’s consignment world, the fall fashion buzz starts early; we need to rev our engines to have things stocked for everyone by the time the cool hits. And until then? I toured one of our stores for those first gateway pieces: items that can be worn now, but ones that will transition perfectly to those early autumn outfits.

Though the trends may change constantly, certain things will always make me think of fall. Among those things are those with classic autumn hues: chestnut browns, mustard yellows, rich mahoganies and burnt oranges. During the early weeks, I love to pair these colors gradually with my summer staples. Switch out your colorful totes for more fall-toned accessories, but keep the summer tunics out and about. Wrap a chunky belt around a wool and cotton blend tunic, and for the cooler nights, add some sweater tights and ankle boots.

As we transition from shorts and capris to pants, army pants are one of my favorite fall staples. Although wide-leg pants are expected to make a comeback in a major way, I have an inkling that some ladies won’t be so quick to abandon their straight-legs just yet. After all, they’re perfect tucked in boots, and they look great against traditional seasonal hues. Pockets have gotten quirkier and cooler, too; I could have spent an entire blog on all of our edgy, pocketed pants.

In the accessories department, I absolutely had to share our latest hot-to-trot jewelry item. Kaylie and I spent an entire Sunday pricing and putting out these pendant necklaces, and by the end of the week, we’d already cleared multiple boards. What I love about these is their substantial weight; they’re bold enough to stand out against chunkier knit sweaters to become an outfit’s sassy statement piece.

Soon it’ll be the best of both worlds: we’ll still have our gorgeous summer days, and get a little preview of the fall to come. We accept fall consignments on August 15th, and stay tuned for updates on a huge summer sale at Johns Landing. Thanks for keepin’ it resale, ladies, and we hope to see you ’round the bend, soon!
