Here we go again logo, designer consignmentIt’s a fast-paced world at Here We Go Again, and timelines can be a whir. In the consignment business, we’re always looking months ahead to stay prepared for the seasons to come. Whether it’s crushing on the latest color of the year, or cheering that your favorite trend is coming back (hello, wideleg denim – later, skinnies!), it’s easy for fashion fanatics and lovers of designer consignment to live in the future.

~ As part of our 25 year celebration, I asked Kelly to reach out to as many former staffers as she could find and ask them for their recollections of their time at HWGA. Sometimes, a third party contact can make it easier than being asked for comments directly by your former boss! ~ chris

But today, we’re taking pause to do just the opposite: looking back. We’ve gathered some sentiments from some of our valued past employees, as Here we Go Again Deluxe Resale Boutique celebrates 25 years in business this year!

“When I think of my time in Portland, I think of my job at Here We Go Again (and Ross Island Grocery’s Tuna Melt). Hands down, it was  the best part of my experience living in Portland. Not only did killer items walk through the door; it was the employees, and most of all: Chris. Not only could you rely on her for a paycheck, but a laugh, an honest opinion and genuine conversation. Not to mention she had such killer style. Chris was always there for you, a great role model and mentor! You’re a #girlboss – cheers to many more years of Here We Go Again!”

-Olivia Y., former Boutique Ambassador

“Thank you HWGA, and Chris, for taking me in as part of your work family for three years while I was is dental hygiene school. I am honored to have worked, and played dress up, alongside such amazing women. Chris, your letter of recommendation after I graduated meant the world to me. Happy anniversary to HWGA, and may there be many, many, more!”

-Sarah I.S., former Boutique Ambassador

“It’s hard to believe that I spent a sixth of my life working for this incredible business with Chris, having an absolute blast as a boutique ambassador, boutique director, photographer and blogger. Working at HWGA was like being gifted a blank canvas every day, with the freedom to get creative at every opportunity. The sense of family, the wonderful regulars, the emphasis on treating our consignors and customers with the utmost care, and the infectiously quirky vibe all helped me to grow into a more whole person than when I first set foot in the door. Thank you for inspiring me to push myself, to become more of a leader, and of course – keep that love and lust for all things designer fashion and resale!!”

-Kelly A., former Boutique Ambassador/Director/Photographer

“When I think of the ideal small, local business, I think HWGA and Chris. It feels like home when you walk in. The dressing rooms are like your best friends closet when you need something to wear and an honest opinion. No one ever leaves looking like anything but their best. Its not just about sales, it is about community and girl power! Oh, and sometimes mini pies and champagne. Chris, you have done an incredible job and I miss HWGA as my go-to spot as I’m up in Seattle. To your sense of fashion, environmental consciousness, joy, hard work, and let’s not forget about endless youth, cheers to 25!”

-Hannah P., former Boutique Ambassador

During my time with HWGA, I found it to be an engaging and vibrant work environment that fosters community amongst employees, consignors, and shoppers alike. Chris is an excellent mentor whose confidence in her employees allows for individuality and leadership to shine.

-Tiffany W., former Boutique Ambassador/Photographer

“I feel so fortunate to have worked for Chris for almost two years. Being part of the HWGA crew was such a blessing–I could not have picked a better first job in retail, and was teary eyed when I left my last day!”

-Kaylie H., former Boutique Ambassador/Assistant Director/Blogger

“I loved the experience, and the sense of family. I miss working at Here We Go Again sometimes because it was so close-knit. We always had the coolest mangers and staff, and I personally loved coming to work. It was the first job to give me some independence, and it boosted my self esteem.”

-Kiara T., former Boutique Ambassador & Assistant Director

“Having the opportunity to work for Chris as my first job was incredible! My dream was to get to work alongside brands like Elizabeth and James and Chanel. Working at Here We Go Again made all those fashion dreams come true. As well as I got to work with some enthusiastic, positive, and overall wonderful women. Here We Go Again brings happiness to my heart. The experiences like designing window displays and helping take photos for social media taught me so much about retail and fashion. I loved it all. Thank you Chris and I wish Here We Go Again the best in the years to come!!! Congrats on the big milestone!”

-Emily I., former Student Intern and Photography Assistant

“HWGA is a fabulously magical place that taught me so much not only about the consignment business but about myself as well. Chris gave me the opportunity to work from part-time associate to Boutique Director at the Westside location. During that time she allowed me to grow, express my ideas and try new things all while both pushing me to be better and lending a hand when I needed her. HWGA showed me the spirit of being locally supportive to businesses, the importance of being environmentally responsible, and just all around girl power! Chris has the winning combination of business savvy, fun fashion style and leadership that continues to move HWGA forward. Congratulations Chris, cheers to many more!! #GIRLBOSS”

– CaMicha A., former Boutique Director at Johns Landing

Sending a dynamite thanks to our loyal customers and employees this year – while raising a toast to a quarter of a century in the resale biz! And lastly, a standing ovation to our very own owner, Chris. Without her savvy, sassy self, our hearts (and our divine closets) would be far less full! #happy25 #twentyfifthanniversary #girlpower #resalerocks

Chris is a self-confessed resale fashionista. A fashion recycler from an early age, she learned the consignment business from her mother, Jan Gauger, at omt divine resale in Lincoln, Nebraska. Chris moved to Portland, Oregon in 1990 and immediately felt at home, among her people. She started Here We Go Again Deluxe Resale Boutique in 1992 and has never looked back. The second location of her store opened in 1997. Chris loves pretty much everything about clothes and fashion, but she has a serious boot and shoe addiction that is fed by the two stores. It's doubtful she will ever be recovered. In addition to clothes, Chris loves mentoring young women and teaching them about what it takes to run and manage a small business. She has employed some pretty remarkable women over the years and is grateful for all they've done to help grow Here We Go Again. She is a Hoosier by birth, but was raised in Nebraska. She has two sisters who continue to run the consignment store there, and one brother who has sense enough to stay out of the way. Her husband of twenty-seven years, is a land use planner and the fix-anything-guru that Chris relies upon more often than she'd like.
